AN IRVINE dad has finished fifth place in the World’s Toughest Mudder race after a last-minute decision to enter.

Scott Brown entered the gruelling contest just five days before competing and hadn’t done any training for the event.

He flew to Atlanta on Friday ahead of Saturday’s competition and incredibly, despite being underprepared Scott came fifth in the world and placed first in Europe, running 90 miles with 25 obstacles in 24 hours with another 870 participants.

Former squaddie, Scott said: “It could not have gone better and it was worth every bit of pain I’m feeling now.

“It was all about who was willing to suffer the most over the 24 hours and I knew I was pretty good at that.

“I am so happy and proud of myself and cant thank everyone at home for getting behind me.”

Scott entered the same contest last year but suffered an injury half way around the course, but amazingly, he still managed to place 18th.

This year Scott had decided to give the contest a miss, but after seeing a picture on his Facebook memories page, he asked wife Kerri if she was happy for him to go and within hours he had booked his flights to the US.

He said: “I was a bit late to the party. I had done zero endurance training but I was looking through Facebook memories on Monday and it came up with pictures from last year.

“I tore my pec seven hours into the competition but I carried on and finished 18th, which I think was a great result in the circumstances.

“But I looked through the comments and I messaged my wife Kerri to ask if I could go again, and she said ‘you’re off your head’ and she said yes. Then I asked Casey, my running coach and he said go for it.

“I didn’t have the fitness I usually take to this event but I had plenty of heart and fight to grind out the hours and just see where I ended up.

“I have never decided to do an event this big in the very same week.”

Scott, who grew up in Irvine but now lives in Dundonald, is now home with wife Kerri and daughters Erin, Cora and Dakota.

Fitness instructor Scott runs his own gym in Dundonald and boot camp Scott Brown Fitness (SBF).

The dad-of-three has won countless awards over the years.
