A FISH and chip shop in Ferndown has won the national 2020 Good Food Award.

Phil Karsberg, 38, set up Karsberg’s Fish and Chips Ltd with his mother Julie Karsberg nine years ago and now runs the business with his wife Adele, 30.

“We are delighted to inform our customers that we did indeed win the Good Food Award for Fish & Chips,” said Phil.

“Thank you for each and every one of your votes we are truly overwhelmed and would like to ask for your continued support by sharing this fantastic news for us.”

When asked about their recipe for success, his wife Adele said: “I think the secret of our success is consistency.

“We are open seven days a week. As a family run local business having put our heart and soul into our shop for almost nine years it’s a great feeling to be recognised for our efforts.”

Around 10,500 fish and chip shops/restaurants across the UK took part in the Good Food Award with a record number of 10,277 votes.

A spokesman for the Good Food Awards said: “Based upon customer feedback, nominations and votes, Karsberg’s Fish and Chips have demonstrated exceptional levels of food quality, service and value when compared to our industry benchmarks in this category.”

The fish and chip shop was also the first in Dorset and the second in the country to open a drive-thru back in 2016 at the rear of the property, as part of a £35,000 investment aimed at improving trade and helping some of their older customers.

Adele added: “We are now planning to update and modify the drive-thru as it has proved to be so popular with customers and now our new big goal will be introducing gluten free starting this Wednesday.

“This is really a massive deal for us to keep up and adapt and educate ourselves.”

Karsberg’s Fish and Chips Ltd is in Turbary Road.
