FANS of R&B will have the chance to see two pioneering groups of the genre under one roof this weekend. The Stylistics are currently touring to celebrate over 50 years since they first formed.

The group, who had 12 consecutive top ten hits in the 1970s including You Make Me Feel Brand New, Break Up to Make Up, Stop, Look, Listen and You Are Everything will be joined by special guests, The Sounds of The Supremes, featuring former Supreme Kaaren Ragland.

Kaaren joined The Supremes in the mid-70s and racked up 30 Top 40 hits with the group. Joined by two other former Supremes Kathy Merrick and Althea Burkhalter, the trio continue to celebrate the group’s legacy as The Sounds of The Supremes.

Speaking from her home in LA, Kaaren said she was thrilled to be heading to the UK with The Stylistics.

“ I love The Stylistics – they have so many fabulous songs. We first worked together 15 years ago on a TV show and it went so well that we went on to do a huge tour in Australia with them. We all get along great. There are no divas – no craziness.”

After more than 40 years in the business, Kaaren could be forgiven for wanting to put her feet up but she says she has no plans to hang up her mic just yet.

“If you love what you do, you just want to keep doing it and it is such great music! People still love it and still want to hear the tunes which is why the rest of us got together in the first place.

“I think the songs endure because they are about love which people can relate to and the melodies are really strong so people can sing along.”

Kaaren adds that she wants the Bournemouth show on Saturday to be a big party.

“I want the audience to have a really good time – it’s all about the music. We want people to get up and dance and sing along with us – I don’t know if everyone at the theatre will approve of that – but hey, it’s a party!”
