SCHOOLS in South Ayrshire are continuing to make the grade in delivering sport to children.
A record number of Scottish schools, including 31 from South Ayrshire, have received a prestigious award from sportscotland in recognition of their commitment to putting sport at the heart of their ethos.
The organisations School Sport Award is presented for innovation and achievement in delivering school sport and physical activity.
The number of gold standard schools is at an all-time high of 399, which is an increase of 41 per cent from last year.
A further 274 achieved silver and 74 got bronze after a significant number of schools completed their improvement towards the gold award.
In South Ayrshire, nine new schools picked up the gold award, taking the total in the local authority to 20.
This included Annbank, Cairn, Coylton, Dundonald, Gardenrose, Kingcase, Muirhead, St John’s and St Ninian’s.
Education Secretary John Swinney, said: “Participation in sport and physical activity has an immensely positive impact on young people, improving their health, confidence and motivation.”
