CAMPAIGNING Troon Councillor Craig Mackay is hoping to ultimately solve the traffic problems near Troon Primary School, writes Stewart McConnell.

He met school representatives recently to discuss the issue and offer solutions to the problems.

Craig said: “I met with the headteacher last week and the safety of kids is important as there have been some near misses although a minority of people are causing problems. I’m also concerned about people disregarding the lollipop man.

“We could create a space for drop offs or cycling, or could there possibly be an exclusion zone around the school, as Holmston Primary have done. The street is quite narrow and potentially hazardous.”

Craig argued that the car park next to recycling centre be used by parents and others for drop-offs

He added: “That would need a crossing patroller to do that. It’s only a short walk from there to the school and people could maybe walk the rest of the way home. But we we would need co-operation of parents for that to work.”

The Troon Councillor has also been working hard to help stamp out graffiti in the town.

He said: “We had some graffiti on the railway bridge at St Meddan’s Street but thanks to Paul Scully, the community safety officer, it has been removed.”
