AROUND 3000 people, including Greens Leader Patrick Harvie flocked to Troon Concert Hall last week for the landmark 20th Ayrshire Real Ale Festival, writes Stewart McConnell.
PR officer Graeme Watt said: “Over the three days we were expecting 2,500 to 3,000 people and it was non-stop on Friday. Barman Ian Martin from Kilbirnie said: “We had 500 people on the opening day and it built up to more entertainment on Friday and Saturday. This is a showcase of real quality beers. The beers are in excellent condition. Bar colleague Andy Cooper of Beith said: I’ve been coming for 15 years and really enjoy it.”
American Rich Kline was volunteering for the fifth time, after jetting in from Boston, Massachusetts. He said: “We flew in on the Friday and then went home the day after it finished. My wife’s parents, Barry and Carol Lambert have been in Loans and persuaded us to come to the festival. There’s been no turning back.”
