Saltcoats Veteran Breakfast Club welcomed Maurice Corry MSP to their recent meeting at the Melbourne Cafe.

The MSP for West Scotland, who is a convenor of the cross-party Armed Forces and Veterans Community, visited to discuss the health and welfare of service personnel. He spoke on issues affecting veterans, such as PTSD, isolation, poverty and loneliness.

Suzanne Fernando from Saltcoats Veteran Breakfast Club thanked the MSP, adding: “Sadly, all too often, veterans are falling through the cracks, can’t cope and are taking their own lives or being persecuted for ridiculous crimes (they didn’t commit) that happened almost 50 years ago.

"With politicians like Maurice who are dedicated to helping our veterans in need, we now have a voice and are being listened to. He provides the voice we so desperately need in parliament.

“Maurice has been assisting the Scottish Parliament in meeting veterans like myself as well as the wider armed forces community, so let’s hope our meetings don’t fall on deaf ears and they actually result in a positive outcome.

“On behalf of the breakfast club I’d like to thank Elaine Meney and her lovely staff for allowing us to hold our club every Monday morning.”
