THE Carrick Light Fest is fast approaching with hundreds of lanterns set to light up the sky.

The annual lantern procession takes place on Saturday, November 2 when children in Girvan and surrounding villages take their creative crafts to the streets.

Last year saw over 300 lanterns join the parade featuring some of all shapes and sizes in an impressive display that ended at the shore front.

Carrick Rural Arts Group invite locals to join them every Saturday in the Scout Hall in Girvan to start preparations for the event themed on SPACE 1969.

Artists will be on hand to help you make your extra-terrestrial creation out of willow and tissue for the river of light lantern procession which will flow through Girvan to some truly cosmic sounds.

The workshop runs from 10am till 5pm. No need to book, drop in. Make in one session or start one week and finish the next. Old clothes are advised during the craft sessions.

Workshops will begin at schools and community centres by the Carrick Rural Arts Group as they get set for the event on Saturday, November 2.
