Councillor Jim Montgomerie says he’s determined to make a difference to women and girls by signing up to become a White Ribbon Scotland Ambassador.

The organisation provides information and training to help men, organisations, colleges and schools among others to stand up to Violence Against Women.

This week Cllr Montgomerie became the second councillor in Scotland to become a White Ribbon Scotland Ambassador and the first here in North Ayrshire.

The elected member met with Davy Thompson, White Ribbon Scotland Campaign Director and signed the White Ribbon Scotland Pledge. In doing so he made the commitment to never commit, condone or remain silent about Violence Against Women.

Cllr Montgomerie is also set to be involved during this year’s 16 Days of Action campaign which commences on Monday, November 25.

Cllr Montgomerie said: “I am determined to make a difference to women and girls in North Ayrshire and committed to ensuring that violence in all its form against women and girls is not acceptable.

“I’m honoured to have been asked to become an Ambassador and proud to have accepted. We have a joint responsibility to challenge this type of behaviour and collectively we can still make such a big difference’.

“I’m really looking forward to the 16 Days of Action campaign and have got some big ideas to raise awareness of the White Ribbon Campaign.”
