A CHILDMINDER says kids have been left devastated after their play park was destroyed in a deliberate fire.

The popular beach park across from Kids Play, Prestwick was set alight by careless yobs on Tuesday, October 1.

Kim Agnew regularly takes young children down to the park to enjoy time playing on the climbing frames, slides and swings.

But the mum was shocked to find the park was in complete ruin after the blaze.

She told the Advertiser: “The kids were quite upset about it. It’s a great park. I’m not one for staying in, I’d rather the kids were outside playing.

“My daughter who’s eight was with me and she was absolutely gutted. It’s one of their favourite parks, they have so much fun playing on the pirate ships. It’s just not fair.”

Kim slammed the “mindless” actions of the yobs who had set the fire.

“It’s just awful. It’s really, really sad. The lack of funds in the council area for kids and they think that’s acceptable.”

A bin was said to be set on fire as rubbish was seen piled up with cans and placed under a climbing frame.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 9.32pm on Tuesday, October 1, to reports of a fire within a park on Links Road, Prestwick.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance and, upon arrival at the scene, firefighters extinguished the fire that had taken hold of a child’s climbing frame.

“They left at 10.12pm.”
