An iconic Saltcoats nightclub which has lain empty for years is getting a new lease of life, the owner has confirmed.

Rumours that the Metro could reopen have circulated in the town for years. But a Facebook post by a local group seemed to show that a plan is in action to bring the former hotspot back to life.

Metro Saltcoats posted pictures yesterday (Tuesday, October 1) claiming they were starting a massive renovation project with the intention of eventually reopening the derelict club.

And today, owner Jagtar Singh confirmed to the Herald that the project is indeed going ahead.

Jagtar told the Herald: “It’s not me who’s doing it, so I don’t want to say anything else. There is extensive cleaning work going on in progress. It is 100 per cent happening.

“It will be good for the area.”

The Metro, in the former Regal Cinema, was in business for more than 20 years.

A spokesperson for Metro Saltcoats said: “Just to let people know the Metro is opening again in time. There is a lot of work to be done and it won't be easy, but work has started.

“We would like people to be patient and to give us the time we need to accomplish this venture. We would like to thank people for their support and hope we can get more people to support us along the way, will keep all updates on here and next year we aim to be open.

"This is something positive for the town and hope all see this. A club like no other. Let's get Saltcoats back on the map.”
