A WEST Kilbride grandmother is celebrating reaching a very special milestone.

Betty Watson celebrated her 100th birthday on September 18 and was centre of attention at a party in West Kilbride Community Centre at the weekend, surrounded by friends and family.

Former waitress Betty was one of 12 siblings and she and younger sister Annie, 97 are the only two left.

But her birthday is not the first special occasion Betty has celebrated in recent years. She and husband Neil marked their 70th wedding anniversary six years ago, shortly before he sadly passed away.

Niece Catriona McGregor says Betty loves a party, she said: “She’s very sociable and loves going to parties. She loves a wee glass of red wine. She’s had two parties for her birthday already.”

The grandmother-of-two received a card from the Queen to mark her special day .
