A FOODBANK is in desperate need of donations after hundreds of parcels were given out to the South Ayrshire’s most vulnerable families.

The charitable organisation which provides essential food produce to struggling households shared pictures of empty boxes and shelves at their Prestwick warehouse last week.

They are in urgent need of UHT milk, diluting juice, tinned fish, tinned custard and tinned rice after a huge haul of deliveries in one week “decimated” their shelves.

A spokesperson for the Foodbank said: “We are desperate, we have given out over 160 food parcels to feed the most vulnerable across South Ayrshire since last Tuesday

“Our shelves are now decimated as you can see below.

“Sorry to be begging again and we really appreciate all your support but these are desperate times.”

The Advertiser previously told how volunteers had to spend £1300 of their own raised cash at the start of the year, and figures in April revealed a 35 per cent rise in the number of residents relying on their service over the last year.

Their Prestwick warehouse base serves units across the whole of South Ayrshire with two in Ayr and one in Troon, Maybole and Girvan.

Concerned residents can make donations at various supermarkets and shops across South Ayrshire.

Ayr’s Asda and Tesco 24 hour mega stores both have stations available for donations as well as High Street locations such as at the Nationwide Building Society, Shelter Scotland and Nat West on Millar Road.

Troon also has drop off points with one at Morrisons and Prestwick residents can donate essential supplies to Sainsbury’s.

In Girvan, shoppers can find the donation boxes at Asda.
