A DEDICATED daughter is running nearly 200 miles for the charity who supported her mum through cancer treatment.

Katie Hall, 39, is going to travel across Scotland’s highland trails from Inverness to Glasgow in aid of Ayrshire Cancer Support who helped her mum Linda get to life saving radiotherapy appointments for breast cancer.

The Dundonald personal trainer, is going to tackle the ultra run starting on Saturday, September 28 when she will start south of Inverness on the Great Glen Way before crossing onto the famous West Highland Way where she hopes to finish at Milngavie five days later.

Katie has already raised thousands for Ayrshire Cancer Support (ACS) , after they were there for her mum.

She told the Advertiser: “My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she just had a routine scan at one of these mobile units that go about. She went along and she was very very lucky because it was so small they couldn’t actually feel it through her skin. Based on how aggressive it was if they hadn’t picked it up at that time it could have been a different story. It’s every families worst nightmare.”

Her mum, benefitted from the use of the charities volunteer drivers, who were able to take her appointments at the Beatson centre in Glasgow.

Over six weeks she received treatment and after getting the all clear has been in remission for four years.

Katie said: “Ayrshire Cancer Support were unbelievable, she doesn’t drive so they supplied volunteer drivers which took her up to the Beatson in Glasgow .They picked her up in the morning and took her back at night. She shared the car with other people going through treatment and the drivers themselves who were absolutely amazing, she got on really well with them

“She got on brilliant with the drivers, she was happy to finish the treatment but upset not to have a little drives everyday up to Glasgow. It’s just fantastic these guys are just volunteers who are giving up their free time, it’s just incredible they are all heroes.

She would go to their office in Kilmarnock, just to pop in for counselling or a cup of tea and a chat, they provide so much, all sorts of things.

“It’s just brilliant what they do, so I thought it was time I gave something back.”

Katie set up a fundraising page and has nearly hit her initial target of £4,000, she is also going to host a fundraiser at the gym she works at in Motherwell.

She added: “The response has blown me away. When we first went into the meeting with the charity my mum was like, we could get a grand and I said I think I might get two.

“The lady at ACS joked she thought I could get five but didn’t want to put pressure on me.”
