Saltcoats Harbour Association are holding an Open Day at Saltcoats harbour on Saturday, September 14 from 12-4pm.

This will be an opportunity for residents and visitors to the Three Towns to discover more about the Association’s aims, and to see the harbour once again in use.

Boats are expected to be entering the harbour for the event, and there will be visits from HM Coastguard, RNLI, Coastwatch and The Maritime Volunteer Service. The Sea Cadets will also be in attendance, and music will be provided by Isle of Cumbrae Pipe Band.

There will be an opportunity to look inside the long-unused Customs House.

Of course, no major event at Saltcoats Harbour would be complete without a visit by the world’s first woman Sea Captain, Betsy Miller, who was born in Quay Street and sailed from the Harbour in the mid-1800s.

Councillor Jean McClungwho was instrumental in forming the Association said: “I am immensely proud of the dedicated members of the Harbour Association who have made huge strides since the group’s formation, and who have been working hard not only to explore ways of regenerating the harbour.”

Admission is free and children are welcome.
