AN Ayr artist has delighted patients at a Prestwick hospital with his latest masterpiece depicting Tam O’ Shanter.

Garry Thorburn, unveiled his latest work on the walls of the McMillan ward at Biggart Hospital.

The Ayr book illustrator who runs his own caricature card company donated the piece to help elderly patients ‘stimulate’ their creativity.

Garry whose sister Dorothy works as a nursing assistant at the hospital, wanted to brighten up the walls with his depiction of the famous Burns poem.

He said: “My sister works at Biggart Hospital and I was keen to do anything I could to help stimulate patients’ creativity. I also decided to help brighten up one of the wards with a caricature depiction of Tam O’Shanter.

“I decided to depict the story in a caricature-style, which I hope will stimulate discussion and enjoyment.”

The picture illustrates Tam O’ Shanter on his worse being chased by witches on a bridge over the Brig O’ Doon.

Staff also praised Garry for his kind donation. Jim Mack, Charge Nurse at Biggart said: ““We are very grateful to Garry for his unique and wonderful picture. It certainly brightens up the wall of our day room.”
