AN AYR pub was evacuated last week after a strong odour coming from the premises led to an emergency response.

Worried staff at Rabbies Bar called in the fire service after noticing the smell on Sunday, August 18.

Police also attended the incident at Burns Statue Square.

Local buses were also impacted as fire crews carried out an investigation.

Crews left the scene within the hour, as they could not find the presence of any dangerous substances.

It was thought that the smell may have been a ‘stink bomb’ device set off in the bar although this has not been confirmed.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Operations Control mobilised three specialist resources to Burns Statue Square where firefighters did not detect the presence of any substance in the atmosphere and thereafter left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”

A spokesperson for Rabbies added: “We’d like to apologise for any disruption the closure caused to traffic in the area.”
