A SWAN was rescued from the River Ayr after it became caught in fishing wire which had wrapped around its neck.

The joint effort between animal welfare charity the Scottish SPCA and staff from Associared British Ports Ayr helped bring the bird back to safety.

A video posted by the Scottish SPCA shows how crews on a boat attended the scene to save the distressed swan.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue offier Alistair Hill told the Ayr Advertiser: “We recently rescued a swan in Ayr who was caught in fishing wire.

“We'd like to thank John Munro, the harbour master, and office staff and crane drivers at Associated British Ports Ayr for their assistance on the rescue. Without them it would not have been possible."

“We urge the public to be more careful with their fishing line, and hooks, when disposing of them as we deal with so many incidents which are very similar on a weekly basis. This could so easily be avoided by clearing away every piece of equipment.”
