BROWNSEA Island’s camping season will draw to a close in September, with the final Adventure Weekend of the year taking place on the weekend of September 14 and 15.

The 200 pitch National Trust campsite offers overnight camping in the summer months and there are still spaces available for the August bank holiday weekend.

Brownsea Island is the home place of Scouting. Lord Baden Powell set up the first ever Scout camp on the Dorset island in 1907, and it continues to attract Scouts from across the world.

The National Trust, which runs Brownsea Island, has offered members of the public the chance to spend a night under the stars at the Outdoor Centre since 2017.

Outdoors Centre manager Amanda Shorey said: “Our camping offer gives you the chance to escape from the bustle of daily life and explore the island without needing to worry about getting the last ferry home.

“And our adventure weekends give you a chance to try fun activities including archery, canoeing and low ropes.

“There are free guided walks available during the day, where you can learn more about the island’s red squirrels, sika deer and rare birds. As night draws in, we spark up the campfire for a traditional marshmallow toasting session and singalong.”

Eco camping is available until the end of September, following the first open air cinema event on September 20 and 21. Prices are from £22 per adult per night, and £11 per child per night, whilst under 5s go free.

The adventure weekend costs £24 for adults and £20 for children. Under-5s are free. Booking is essential, see nationaltrust.org.uk/brownsea-island
