Detectives are on the hunt after a man was attacked and robbed on a night out in Kilwinning last weekend.

Between 1am and 2.30am on August 3 the man was walking along Lauchlan Way when he was approached by a man and assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone.

We reported last week that the man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital after being found injured in the street and offered help at around 3am on Saturday, August 3.

CID have now confirmed the 48-year-old victim suffered a hip injury from the violent robbery and say they are checking CCTV and appeal for dashcam footage of the suspect.

Detective Constable Gordon Thomson said: “A man has been on a night out and has been the victim of an assault and robbery.

"I am appealing to taxi drivers and any motorists who were in this area between the hours mentioned to think back and consider if they saw anything odd, perhaps they noticed someone hanging around or someone running off.

"Any small piece of information could prove vital in our enquiries.  In particular, I would like to ask anyone to check their dash cams. It’s possible it may have captured images which could assist us in tracing the person responsible for this crime.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Saltcoats Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0798 of 3 August 2019.  Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
