A MYSTERY sound of loud banging has been heard in Ayr this week.
Some residents were concerned that the bangs were the sound of a gun going off.
One woman sent a message on twitter to South Ayrshire Police which asked them if "they had heard gun shots".
SouthAyrshirePolice replied: "Thanks for contacting us. There seems to be a pest controller working in the area today so that is likely to be what you heard."
Others speculated that a 'bird scare' device could have been used to deter seagulls, where others joked that the noise could be from boy racers' noisy exhaust pipes.
The Ayr Advertiser contacted South Ayrshire Council who advised it was not their pest control team who were responsbile for the noisy work.
