Police are investigating a deliberate fire at a property in a new housing development in Auchinleck.

The blaze took hold of one of the houses which are currently under construction at Rigg Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 28). No one was injured in the fire.

Police are treating the incident as wilful fire-raising and are investigating.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were alerted at 12.41am on Sunday, July 28 to reports of a building fire in Auchinleck, East Ayrshire.

"Operations Control mobilised three fire engines to the town's Rigg Road, where crews were met by a well-developed fire which had taken hold of a house under construction.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire and left the scene after ensuring the area had been made safe.

"There were no casualties."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police attended a report of fire around 12.45am on Sunday, July 28 at a house in a new build estate called Afton Braes.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are continuing.”
