THOUSANDS flocked to Girvan Harbour this weekend for the RNLI Lifeboat Gala weekend.

Visitors were entertained over two days at the bash thrown by volunteers of the Lifeboat team which helped raise funds for the vital work they carry out.

On Saturday it was access all areas, as visitors got to jump on board their new boat ‘The Shannon’ which put on a display to show off its jet power during a demonstration on the Sunday.

On Saturday evening around 90 turned up for the Gala race night which was hailed by organisers as a success, with more money raised for the RNLI.

RNLI’s mascot Stormy Stan proved popular with kids, and there was also entertainment by local Highland dancers.

Callum Govus, mechanic at Girvan Lifeboats, said: “Thank you for supporting your local lifeboat. Without the fundraising effort we wouldn’t be here.”
