Alan Brown recently met with representatives from brain injury charity Headway Ayrshire, who provide care and support for people living with the effects of an acquired brain injury (ABI).
In the year 2016/17 1816 people from Ayrshire and Arran were admitted to hospital with a diagnosis related to an ABI. Most of these cases were of a result of a stroke, brain tumour or trauma.
Commenting on the meeting, Alan Brown MP said: “It was great to meet with Jayne and Lynn from Headway Ayrshire.
“Some of the figures and statistics they shared with me were really eye opening and frankly quite shocking – for example, that men are one and a half times more likely to be admitted than women and the fact all ABIs are up 10 percent since 2005/06 was extremely alarming.
“That is why organisations such as Ayrshire Headway are vital in raising awareness to try and combat these tragedies.”
