During the Parliamentary Recess representatives from Community Groups in West Kilbride invited Kenneth Gibson MSP to visit their village and share ideas for the future and to address certain challenges and concerns.

This was organised as part of the MSP Connector Programme, run by Scotland’s Towns Partnership and the Cross Party Group for Towns and Town Centres. The campaign encourages MSPs to take time during recess to spend time in and connect with their local town. Towns play a key role in Scotland’s economy with around 60 per cent of jobs and employment there and around 70 per cent of the population living in these communities.

Attendees took part in a lively discussion covering such topics such as car parking, density and pace of new build, infrastructure improvements, maintenance of open spaces, maintenance of Main/Ritchie Street, raising the profile and the natural environment v industrial development. A number of ideas will be taken forward by the various groups and Kenneth Gibson was thanked by all for taking time to visit.
