A MAN has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in a Girvan pub last night.

It is claimed a fight broke out in the Commercial Inn on Dalrymple Street, leaving one woman badly injured and knocked unconscious, according to reports from the scene.

The 47-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after it was alleged she was assaulted by a 45-year-old man.

Punters watched on as a rammy involving men and women sparked a huge police presence arriving at the scene.

At least one ambulance also attended after there were reports claiming a woman was knocked unconscious at the bar.

Police are treating the incident as a serious assault and are still conducting enquiries.

All of a sudden, about five or six people were fighting.

As many as six were seen fighting at the pub.

A takeaway shop worker across the road from the Commercial Inn said he saw there was a lot of commotion while he was working. He told the Ayr Advertiser series: “I was working in the shop and I could see, all of a sudden, about five or six people fighting.

“But police came straight away and dealt with it.

“I don’t know if it started inside the pub or outside but whatever was going on police came quickly and seen it, so they didn’t stay too long to speak to anyone else.

“I saw two police cars and two ambulances but couldn’t see if more arrived after as I was busy working, and within about five minutes they were gone, so it looks like they came in time.”

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “At around 9.40pm on Sunday July 21, Police were called to a report of a disturbance at a pub on Dalrymple Street in Girvan.

“Emergency services attended and a 47-year-old woman was taken to hospital and treated for her injuries before being released.

“A 45-year-old man had been arrested but he has not been charged at this point.

“Enquiries are ongoing, but it is being treated as a serious assault.”
