North Ayrshire Athletics Club annual Festival of Running is taking shape for 2019 with around 1,000 people expected to be involved.

The festival has three events, a family fun run based at the track which is suitable for buggies and wheelchairs and young children, a 2k chip timed race for children up to 14 looking to take part in a competitive race and the now famous #NAAC10k.

The event director Blair Pettigrew is confident the 2019 event will the best yet and is urging the wider community to come together and support it.

He told the Herald: “We would love some help from groups who could help with marshal duties for the 10k and also any groups who might want to showcase their talents.

“The race takes in Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston sections of the prom and we would love to add to the pipers who helped entertain the runners on the course last year.

“It would be fantastic to see some of the community out lining the route and cheering the runners on.”

The event requires around 100 volunteers on the day to be a success with various roles still needing filled from helping set up and clear down the course to providing some marshals on the course.

Local TV and radio presenter Gerry McCulloch who is well known from working with Sky Sports and Clyde Radio has agreed to compere this years event which is widely regarded as one of the best on the local race calendar.

This year the 10k is also the Ayrshire Harriers Championship event which means club runners from throughout Ayrshire will be battling it out for the crown.
