Locals were left stunned after hearing a loud ‘blast’ at around 1.30am on Thursday morning when a lid was blown off one of the electricity boxes.
The substation is located near Barrhill Road.
Experts are now frantically trying to find out what caused the blast.

A spokesperson for Scottish Power said: “There was a capable fault at the substation which caused a loud blast.
“We apologise for scaring anyone who heard the noise after one of the lids were blown off one of the units.
“We are now looking into the case to see what caused it and will attempt to repair the box over the weekend.”
