DETERMINED volunteers gave a day’s work for Whiteleys Retreat last week helping to transform an old barn set to be a games room.

A team of around 30 turned up, picked up paint brushes, rolled up their sleeves and grafted to help the charity along with their big plans.

Set up by Give A Day Ayrshire, the hard workers were also given some free refreshments by a local convenience store Doonfoot Day Today.

Bernard Smith of Whiteleys Retreat was overwhelmed by the support shown by the handy volunteers as they managed to get through over a day and a half’s work.

Bernard told the Ayr Advertiser: “The group were amazing. They just battered in, done some white washing, moved things out of the barn, it was simply an amazing effort.

“We are always overwhelmed by the support we receive in the community.

“What we provide is close to the community’s heart, we wouldn’t be able to support the families that we do without this incredible support.”

The new games room is set to give families an indoor respite.

Plans are on-going with business owner Owen Kerr also helping Whiteleys with the renovation of the barn.
