AYR is to host an independence march this week with thousands expected to attend.

The rally is being organised by pro-Indy group ‘All Under One Banner’ and will head through the town finishing up on Low Green.

A rival protest will take place against the march, with a Pro-UK group ‘A Force For Good’ also attending the rally.

It will take place on Saturday June 6 with thousands from all over Scotland expected to descend on Ayr.

Travel delays are expected with road closures confirmed by Police after South Ayrshire Council granted permission for the march to go ahead.

South Ayrshire Council have granted permission for a public procession to take place in Ayr on Saturday the 6th of July 2019.

The procession is expected to commence at 1.30pm at Blackburn carpark and will finish up at Low Green.

• Barns Street • Dalblair Road

• Alloway Place • High Street

Sandgate

• Wellington Square

Police have advised that it is likely that the rally will cause “major” congestion within Ayr Town Centre and the surrounding areas.

A spokesperson for Ayrshire Police Division said: “The procession is likely to cause major congestion within Ayr Town Centre and the surrounding areas with road closures being put in place - it is anticipated that the procession will be concluded by 3pm but this is subject to change on the day.

“Allow plenty of time for your journey and anticipate significant delays “Reduce your speed when in the town due to stationary and queuing traffic and be aware of pedestrians participating in the procession.

“We will be deploying additional officers throughout the procession to keep people safe.”
