A WOMAN left scarred for life after being glassed in the face by a drunken yob says justice system failed her.

Raegan Heggie was left with a bloodied face and permanent scar after violent Sarah Lee smashed a glass into her face during a drunken scuffle.

The 22-year-old make-up artist was out celebrating after a football game in the packed Harry’s Bar on May 19 last year, 36,-year-old Lee snapped at being bumped into by an inflatable alien.

The yob quickly turned on Raegan and attacked her with the glass, landing her in hospital requiring stitches.

Despite the violent outburst, Lee, of Dalmellington Road, escaped with a £500 fine at Ayr Sheriff Court this week.

Raegan says she is disappointed at the sentenced handed out to Lee. She told the Ayr Advertiser: “If that’s honestly the punishment you get for putting a glass in a young girl’s face and leaving them with a permanent mark, our justice system is going to fail a lot of people.

“I’ve been left with a scar above my eye, which is annoying because I’m a makeup artist and have folk look at me day in day out.”

Raegan, from Patna, says she was out with pals and was carrying an inflatable alien which she had picked up following football match celebrations when Lee smashed her in the face, totally unprovoked.

She said: “I was out with a few friends and went into Harry’s Bar to have a drink, because it was after a football match there was an inflatable alien doll which I had on my shoulders.

“I went to the bar to get a drink, next thing I knew I got a random woman who I don’t even know putting a glass in my face because this inflatable alien doll bumped into her whilst I was facing the bar.

“It was honestly the most random thing, I never even seen the woman in my life or even as much spoke to her that night.”

During the hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court Depute Fiscal Lindzi Bayne said: “The complainer was in Harry’s Bar with friends socialising after watching a Celtic game earlier that day,”

“At 10pm in the evening she (Raegan) is in possession of an inflatable alien. As she makes her way towards the bar area she is carrying the alien under her arm. Bumps into her [Lee], there is an argument. “

“The accused pushes complainer to the body. She has a glass, moves in to right hand from left hand, and strikes her on her face to the forehead area.”

“The victim suffered a cut to her face that was bleeding at the time. She was taken to hospital where she was treated with two butterfly stitches on a small laceration near her eyebrows.”

CCTV footage of the bar fight was viewed by the crown and saw the manager get involved after bystanders heard the glass smashing.

Lee’s solicitor Gregor Forbes admitted the incident escalated out of almost nothing. He told the court: “I’ve seen the video on several occasions. This is a matter that had trivial roots and should have been resolved at an early stage.”

The 36-year-old was fined £500 to be paid at £20 per week.
