A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy was struck by a car yesterday in Maybole.
At around 4.40pm a Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 48-year-old female hit the schoolby on Abbot Street.
Emergency services attended and the boy was taken to Crosshouse Hospital. He was later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as stable.
The driver of the car was checked by paramedics at the scene but did not sustain any injury.
The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators examined the scene.
An investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident is underway and officers are appealing for anyone who may have information, and who have not yet spoken with police, to contact them. In particular, anyone with dash cam is asked to check their footage as the images may assist officers in their enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to call Road Policing Officers at Irvine Police Station via 101.
