A MAN has been arrested in connection with the robbery of an 81-year-old in Ayr.

The pensioner was robbed at his home address on James Street on Sunday morning, June 9.

The man alleged to have carried out the attack was also arrested in connection with a similar incident which took place the night before where a 23-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag in Blackfriars Walk.

The 32-year-old will appear in court tomorrow (June 13) accused of both attacks, alongside a 33-year-old woman only accused of the robbery in Blackfriars Walk.

Despite the nature of the incidents, the female and male were thankfully both uninjured.

A police spokesperson said: "Following assistance by members of the public and good work by Locality Policing officers and CID, a 32 year old male and 33 year old female have been arrested and charged for the incident in Blackfriars Walk and the same male has been arrested and charged for the incident in James Street.

"Both will appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Thursday, June 13."

Chief Inspector Brian Anderson, Area Commander at South Ayrshire Police said: “Following our earlier appeal, I would like to thank those who provided information that assisted with both enquiries.

"The public of South Ayrshire can be reassured that where incidents like this do occur we will carry out robust enquiries to identify those allegedly responsible and bring them before the courts.”
