FAMILY and friends of Brandon Patton came together last week to say a final farewell as he was laid to rest.

Hundreds of mourners packed into Masonhill Crematorium on Friday, (June 7), to pay their respects in a colourful ceremony which celebrated Brandon’s short life.

Brandon died on May 16 after a tragic drowning accident at Loch Doon, near Dalmellington.

He was just 18-years-old.

Brandon’s family arrived to colourful array of green and white, as pals paid tribute to the lad by wearing Celtic tops.

Friends stood in a respectful silence as Brandon’s coffin decorated in green and white flowers arrived.

Celtic anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone then started to play in a poignant tribute to the Hoops-mad teen.

Celebrant, Drew Brady delivered a heartwarming service reflecting on Brandon’s life.

Speaking on Brandon’s time as a former Doon Academy pupil for his former guidance teacher, Steven Kelly who spoke of Brandon as being a “compassionate” young man who had touched the lives of many.

Mr. Kelly said: “I am extremely proud to honour, respect and remember the life of a truly remarkable young man who has touched the lives of so many people within this congregation and beyond.

“Brandon had a fantastic sense of humour and always liked the last word.

“He would be thrilled to see many people in the congregation unite in the famous green and white of his beloved Celtic.

“All I can say is the time (teaching Brandon) was a pleasure and I would love to do it all again.”

The teacher spoke of meeting Brandon for the first time, and delivered stories of him always wearing his Celtic top in PE lessons.

He also hailed friends who witnessed the tragedy as heroes and told them to, “hold their heads up high and be proud of your efforts, do under estimate them”.

Mr Kelly finished by telling the congregation Brandon will be remembered, saying: “I celebrated my 40th birthday on Thursday May 16, 2019.

“From now on this date on the calendar will hold an extra significance for me. Brandon will always be remembered. Thanks for being my pupil and I will see you again.”
