A BEACH near a popular Ayr caravan site could be closed off to members of the public next year due to unsafe bathing waters.
Heads of Ayr beach, down from Craig Tara holiday resort, received a “poor” grade for the fourth year running after SEPA ran tests.
Under SEPA rules, it would be permanently declared off limits if it was to receive the grading for a fifth year running.
Ayr South Beach, at the main esplanade received a grading of “poor” for the third year in a row, meaning waters could be deemed unsafe in two years.
Bathing waters at Culzean, Girvan, Maidens and Troon were rated “sufficient”, with Prestwick being the only South Ayrshire beach to receive a “good” score.
The Ayr Advertiser have approached SEPA for a comment.
