THE Scottish Government has paid out nearly £1million to carers in South Ayrshire.

1890 carers across the region were to benefit from the £775,000 paid out by Holyrood, as the money was splashed due to the devolved welfare powers.

The new figures show that 3505 payments have been paid out in South Ayrshire, which makes up the staggering total.

MSP Jeane Freeman, said: “Last year, the Carer’s Allowance Supplement helped 83,000 carers across Scotland, including 1890 carers in South Ayrshire.

“Carers in South Ayrshire make an absolutely vital contribution to our society, and it’s only appropriate that they’re duly valued and properly supported.”
