Ayr has been transformed into a film set for a TV blockbuster from the network behind Game of Thrones.

A crew from HBO drama Succession produced by Will Ferrell have been shooting scenes at a private property.

South Ayrshire Council closed the Blackburn car park at the seafront to accommodate TV production vehicles.

The political drama stars Scottish actor Brian Cox and former Spooks star Matthew Macfadyen.

Ayr West councillor Derek McCabe said: “I am delighted they chose Ayr as a location. It is a grand old historic town with lovely scenery. It has the right ambience.

“Top marks to the location scout for picking Ayr.”

Speculating on which mystery building was  used for filming, he said: “It could have been one of the old Victorian villas. I look forward to seeing the footage.”

The film crew left the town on Wednesday last week.

Commenting on the car park closure, a council spokeswoman said: “The closure is to facilitate parking and storage for a production company, which is filming nearby in private property.”

The American Dark comedy show follows a media mogul’s feuding family.

The crews who flew from the US to shoot scenes have also been filming in Glasgow.

HBO is the television network behind Game of Thrones and series Succession has been tipped to be a huge hit as its audience grows.

Ayr beach also played host to a Bollywood crew this month.
