THE Quay Zone recently put on a special fundraiser for 'Stand Up 2 Cancer' where a coffee morning and bake sale was held to raise funds for a great cause.

Staff and customers got involved by making delicious contributions of homebaking on March 29 at the community leisure centre in Girvan.

Rachel Melville, one of the team, organised the event and baked a fantastic ‘Stand Up 2 Cancer’ Cake to be raffled and along with a Star Baker competition, there was plenty for everyone to enjoy.

With an overwhelming turnout of support on the day an amazing sum of £530 was raised for the cause and the icing on the cake was when local company, William Grant & Sons, donated £100 towards the coffee morning bringing the grand total to £630.

The team cannot thank everyone enough for all the support and contribution they received which made it a fantastic morning for everyone involved.

On the day, Quay Zone manager Rodger Hunter had the very gruelling job of blind testing the best biscuit in the ‘Star Baker’ competition. The winner was Liz Brown with her lovely shortbread and she was awarded the ‘Star Baker’ apron. Liz was closely followed by Ann Lowe for her delicious empire biscuit.

A special sweepstake provided by the charity was won by one of the team, Fiona Matthews, who was presented with a special oven glove from ‘Stand Up 2 Cancer’ and Ann Sharp won the beautiful Stand up 2 Cancer cake.

The Quay Zone they would like to thank Rachel Melville for organising the event, Pauline Kominski and Carrie McClymont who were in charge of the raffle and sweepstakes, the Reception Team who managed all the coffees and dishes on the day along with the support of all the staff and especially all The Quay Zone members and customers who baked and donated money towards the event. Together it has made a fantastic result for ‘Stand Up 2 Cancer’.

The Centre is situated next to Girvan harbour and you can find more about the Centre and ‘What’s On’ at Spring & Easter at www.thequayzone.co.uk or follow them on Facebook. They’d love you to come and visit.
