AYR Asda shoppers are amongst the biggest buyers of hot cross buns in Scotland. 

The Heathfield supermarket made it into the top three for sales of the Easter favourite in 2018. 

Hot cross daft buyers of the the fruity treat flock to the store every spring and Ayr has finished third top ahead of stores across the country. 

Ayr shoppers finished ahead of the local competition in Kilmarnock who finsihed in 7th, and superstores in Livingston and Glasgow's Toryglen. 

Chief baker at the Asda in Ayr said that sales help keep the "Easter traidtion" alive in Ayr. 

 Billy Caldwell, Asda Ayr bakery section leader said:  “Hot cross buns are now available all year round, but the demand really surges in the run up to Easter and we love to be able to make sure that the Easter tradition is alive in Ayr.

Joe Allan, Asda Ayr Deputy Store Manager added: “It’s a great time of the year - Easter wouldn’t be Easter without hot cross buns on the table for all the family, and while there are many different variations on offer today including fudge and chocolate, our shoppers love the traditional fruit and spice recipe.

“We hope that 2019 will be just as fruitful for hot cross bun sales in Ayr.”
