AYR United fans have been slammed for attacks on opposition supporters after last week’s tie with Greenock Morton.

Morton supporters said they felt under threat after their side stole a point from the Honest Men in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, April 2.

One travelling supporter described the Ayr fanatics as “a horrible bunch”

after they attacked her supporters’ bus and smashed one of its windows.

Morton fan Laura Wohlgemuth posted a picture online of the shattered window on her way home after the game saying: “What a horrible bunch can’t take a draw so pan in the window. Disgusting.”

A spokesman from South Ayrshire Police commented on the incident: “At about 9.45pm on Tuesday, April 2 police were actioned to a report of an incident involving a coach which was travelling along Whitletts Road, Ayr.

“On arrival it was ascertained that unknown objects had been thrown at the coach causing damage to several panes of glass, enquiries are ongoing to trace the persons responsible at this time.”

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them on (101) or alternatively Crime Stoppers on (0800555111).

There were also claims of Ayr fans throwing coins at rival supporters during the match.
