CRAIGENGILLAN Estate near Dalmellington is gearing up for the fifth Hillbilly 10k on Sunday, February 17.

The 300 places available for runners sold out in just 48hrs as Butterfly Events aim to celebrate the cross country run's fifth birthday in style.

For the first time, chip timing will be used so every runner knows their final time and a full set of results will be published in the Chronicle.

Every participant will get a t-shirt and their will be entertainment and a buffet on the day.

This event is not sponsored by the runners, but Butterfly Events are hoping a few people can gather sponsors to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Lorna Dempsey of Butterfly Events has been hard at work planning for the big day. She said: "After launching our fifth birthday Butterfly Hillbilly 10k, we were overwhelmed at the speed it sold out, a record breaking 48hours. We do however still have places available on our waiting list which you can book on Entry Central.

"With three weeks to go, our team are busy organising the final details to make sure everything runs smoothly, whilst praying for good weather. We still have an amazing opportunity for a local business to sponsor this event. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more.

"We would like to thank our business supporters for this event, Avenue Marketing, Cumnock Chronicle, Fiona Young Dance & Zumba, Just to Say Flowers & Gifts, The Coo Shed, CW Printwise and The Running Dog Bespoke Woodworking. We cannot wait to share our scenery and support to all 300 runners."

Lorna and her team are still on the lookout for marshalls to help ensure the day runs smoothly. Anyone interested in marshalling or sponsorship can e-mail Butterflyevents2006@gmail.com or visit facebook.com/butterflyeventsCRUK
