THE CEO of the Ayr Housing Aid Centre is calling on support for homelessness all year round, NOT just at Christmas.

In an open letter, John Mulholland admits the organisation appreciate the generous donations made during the lead up to the festive period, but concedes that people connected with the centre need help 365 days of the year.

Mr Mulholland said: “As we see homelessness growing again, it highlights that we should not be complacent.

“There are many causes and indeed, often decisions made on other areas of policy such as welfare reform which can directly lead to the problem."

Founded over 30 years ago, the Ayr Housing Centre has opened around 23,000 cases over that time.

He added: “At the centre we work with many partners in the fight against homelessness all year round and we thank them for their support.

“We would take this opportunity to thank the Salvation Army for their wonderful response to ensure that children of families who struggle at Christmas receive gifts.”
