AFTER six years the Troon Coastal Rowing Club won their own Regatta as outright winners.
On Saturday, June 2, it was not a promising start to the day due to the lack of wind and the sea was dense for the rowers, however, a light breeze lifted the haar at around 11am, bringing ‘ideal’ rowing conditions to the race.
A spokeswoman for Troon Coastal Rowing Club, said: “After lunch the breeze stiffened so that there was some lively rowing into the wind to the first buoy, a sideways swell to the second buoy then a glorious wave and wind surfing return home to the finish.
“Our Regatta doesn’t just happen, and we’d like to thank the Troon library for tables, Associate British Ports for our rescue boat which was crewed by the Troon Lifeboat – very reassuring.
“Tremendous amounts of food were provided with even the Taj restaurant turning up with pakoras just in time to help with the final sprint race.
"Visiting teams commented on the cleanliness of our South Beach, the meal deal at the Kiosk and the extra litter bins provided by South Ayrshire Council.
“However, any rowing Regatta requires dedicated rowers and we were blessed with a particularly nice hard-working bunch.”
