BALLANTRAE Primary School will be closed for the ‘foreseeable future’ after a major fire broke out at the school last night.
At around 8.40pm yesterday evening, Scottish Fire and Rescue were called as flames were seen going through the roof of the school building under construction. It is not yet known how much damage has been done to the main building.
Douglas Hutchison, Director of Education at South Ayrshire Council, tweeted: “Sad news about a major fire at Ballantrae Primary School tonight which means full closure for the foreseeable future.
“A meeting is planned for 10am to start making alternative arrangements. Information will be sent to parents as soon as possible.”
It is understood that there were no casualties.
