French plane The Hummer refuels at Prestwick
PRESTWICK Airport welcomed an unusual visitor last week.
On Tuesday, April 3, a French Navy Grumman E2C 165455 (1) lined up for departure for Keflavik after a fuel stop en route to NAS Oceana in Virginia where it will train out of that location for a period of time.
It is understood that some of the aircraft, aircrews, and support personnel will fly out to the USS George H.W. Bush to operate as an integrated component of the carrier’s air wing.
This particular aircraft is a twin-turboprop and was designed and developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s – in recent years it has been referred to as ‘The Hummer’ due to the distinctive sounds of its turboprop engines.
