TROON Ladies 1s continued their unbroken run since the season restart with a strong 5-1 win home to Argyle Ladies.
The win places them first in West Division 2, although Glasgow University Ladies 3s with two games in hand remain favourite to top the division.
Going into the last six games of the season, the 1s are leading in the race for second place and promotion, being just ahead of Stepps and Dumfries.
The 1s delivered a constructive first half with good team work right from pass back – the rewards came quickly with Lisa MacDonald (Capt) scoring the first goal in 13 minutes with a straight strike from the top of the "D", followed by Amber MacDonald scoring their second goal just two minutes later. Argyle responded strongly, exploiting space through the centre with the 1s conceding a short corner before half time that was converted by Argyle.
Troon used a high press to pile on the pressure in the second half, though the tension saw the 1s having two players benched on green cards. Their tactics were rewarded with a flurry of second half goals from Lisa Macdonald, Chloe McKinnon and Amber Macdonald, who took advantage of an uncharacteristic slip left on a short corner to round out the victory for Troon.
This coming Saturday sees Troon Ladies 1s at home at Marr Playing Fields with a 1pm pass back against Dumfries Ladies 1s, a critical match for both teams as they battle for promotion. Troon Ladies 2s, after a weekend off, also play at home against Loch Lomond Ladies 2s.
