A MAN who engaged in a stand up fight with men at a night out during the Troon Open has been fined £1000.
John Crombie, of Russell Drive, Ayr admitted behaving in a threatening manner by engaging in the fight on Troon’s Portland Street and refusing to stop when told to do so by police on July 15.
The 28-year-old owned up to struggling violently with police officers by trying to resist them. He also pleaded guilty to having cocaine, a class A drug in his possession.
Crombie appeared before Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how Crombie was caught on CCTV making hand gestures.
Depute Fiscal Cath Whyte said: “He was shouting aggressively and making hand gestures. Police tried to control the situation. Mr Crombie was having none of it. He was intoxicated. He told officers to f**k off.”
Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Colin Adam, said: “He had been at the golf during the day and drinking during the night.
“Because of what he had consumed, he can recollected very little. He wants to apologise for his behaviour. He spent the best part of the night in custody.”
Sheriff MacTaggart fined him £1000 and he will pay £50 per week.
