A car has been found abandoned in prominent wildlife site on Carrick Forest Drive near to Loch Riecawr, within Galloway Forest Park.
The silver Mitsubishi was found stuck in an area of blanket bog, most likely having been driven along a footpath that leads to a black grouse viewing platform.
Police are appealing for information to see if anyone has lost their car.
PC Briggs, based in Girvan, said: "This scenic area is also an important location for viewing wildlife and through someone's blatant disregard there has been damage caused to the habitat.
“The vehicle will shortly be removed. Inquiries have so far been unable to determine the current keeper of the vehicle."
Anyone who has any information relating to this vehicle or the driver is asked to contact police at Girvan or Maybole via 101.
