A MANIAC drove dangerously along the pathway at Troon's Darley golf course narrowly missing school kids who jumped out of the way of the vehicle.

Police said that the incident took place during school hours on Thursday, April 21 at 2.45pm when the driver failed to slow down or stop causing, people on the path at Dundonald Road, to take evasive action and dive out of the way.

The Ayr Advertiser Series understands that police are looking to speak to a senior pupil in connection with the incident.

The passageway runs alongside the Darley golf course, one of the most challenging courses and one of three golfing hot spots in the town associated with Troon links.

Police warned that driving in this manner could have had serious consequences for all those involved including the golf course which is renowned for its Scottish hazards of heather, gorse and whins.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone with any information or who noticed any suspicious behaviour at that time to get in touch with the local division via the non emergency number on 101.

Alternatively they can contact CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.

It is believed that if the young man is found he will be cautioned and charged with Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act for dangerous driving.
