PANCAKES, a wide range of other home baking and tea and coffee were served a a successful fundraising coffee morning organised by the Portland Parish Church Guild.

There was a steady stream of people at the event in Troon, which raised £390 for Guild funds,

Money raised will help support a number of ongoing Church of Scotland Guild Projects including Street Pastors and Care for the Family.

Ascension Trust Scotland is the governing body for the 500 street pastors volunteers working in more than 20 communities in Scotland.

In April 2007, there were no Street Pastors in Scotland. In April 2015, there are more than 500 operating in areas as far apart as Edinburgh and Tain.

Pastors go out in all weathers, typically from 10pm until 3am on one or more nights at the weekend to help spread the gospel message.

Care for the Family are a national charity which aims to promote strong family relationships and to help those who face family difficulties.

The work is motivated by Christian compassion, with resources and support available to everyone, of any faith or none.

The cost of family breakdown is estimated at £42bn per year and mainly occurs during the early years of parenthood, with more than 50 per cent of parents separating within three years of having a baby.
